Animal Rescue League of Boston is Hiring a Law Enforcement Officer Near Dedham, MA

Are you mission driven and interested in working with animals? The Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL), one of New England’s leading animal welfare organizations, is seeking a full-time Law Enforcement Officer to join our Humane Law Enforcement department, based out of ourDedham location. 

Who we are:

The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Humane Law Enforcement Department has served and protected the animals and people of Massachusetts since 1934. Humane Law Enforcement follows a community-based philosophy and works closely with our field services team. This full-time salaried position involves every aspect of enforcing state laws pertaining to animal protection and welfare. A high level of organization, professionalism, flexibility, confidentiality and attention to detail is required. This position must be able to work efficiently in a team environment as well as independently and perform multiple tasks including criminal investigations, completing written reports, assisting in special projects, computer work with multiple databases, data reporting, and other related duties.

The Law Enforcement Officer must be a graduate of a full time, MPTC or MPTC-approved police academy and must be certified by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission. This position has to be flexible in various duties and responsibilities to best fit the changing needs of the Law Enforcement Department and the mission of the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL).

What you will do:

Use your skills to make a difference by becoming a part of one of the best and oldest animal welfare organizations! Here’s how: 

  • Investigate complaints of animal abuse and/or neglect, gather evidence, and information, and bring criminal charges when evidence so indicates;
  • Serve summonses, warrants, subpoenas, notices of quarantine, and other related documents promptly and accurately when so directed by a superior officer;
  • Answer all questions asked by the general public, share information when necessary, and refer to persons or agencies where they can obtain further assistance;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with state agencies, Animal Control Officers, shelters, and rescue groups;
  • Fulfill all duties, requirements and responsibilities to obtain and maintain an appointed commission as a Special State Police Officer pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22C, Section 57.
